I guess it's stupid to get enraged when somebody controlled your friend into killing you. And it's a good idea not incapacitating the controller directly and waste your time with its minions instead.

it's possible that he was trying not to over reach by going for the controller right away while the minion was so close to a helpless teammate. And he did get the info she wanted on the elves captured before so now they won't be chasing their tails looking for non-existing victims.
